Leaving a Legacy
Since opening in 1893, Hymers College has thrived on the generosity of those who shared our founder’s vision: "To educate every social rank of life".
Hymers stands today as a result of generations of giving, from its earliest benefactors to Old Hymerians and friends. Leaving a legacy to Hymers College is a meaningful way to support the School beyond your lifetime. A gift in your will can be a lasting tribute, one that helps ensure Hymers values and opportunities endure for generations to come. No gift is too small to be valuable to us; all are welcome, gratefully acknowledged and spent wisely. We hope that you can give according to your means and include Hymers College in your will.
The 1893 Legacy Society
Anyone who makes us aware of their intention to leave a legacy to the School will automatically become a member of the 1893 Legacy Society. Legacies of all sizes are always appreciated and, unless you wish to tell us, we will never ask how much you have pledged.
Legacies are usually unrestricted gifts, allowing Hymers to support its current priorities. However, we will always try to honour a donor’s wishes where they have identified a specific area of interest within the School. Bursaries are the current priority.

Our online will process will assess your needs, and in most cases through the online tool you can produce a new will. If you have more complex requirements, we can assist with a subsidised will through our partner solicitors.
Through our partnership with the School, Old Hymerians receive an online adeus will at no cost.

Benefits of Leaving a
Gift in your will
Leaving a gift in your will can be a simple and tax-efficient way of making a significant donation to the School that will cost nothing in your lifetime. As a registered charity, a legacy to the Hymers College is exempt from Inheritance Tax, and could also reduce the amount of Inheritance Tax paid on the rest of your estate.
In an adeus will you can leave:
Pecuniary: a specific sum of money.
Specific Gift: A non-cash bequest.
Residuary: A specific share of your estate.
If you give a combined total of at least 10% of your taxable estate to charity, the inheritance tax rate for the rest of your estate drops from 40% to 36%.

"Hymers gave me massive knowledge, amazing challenges and lifelong friendships with some truly amazing people. The academic learning at Hymers is just one strand of the growth you’re given. Learning about yourself, your strengths, and your development areas - be they academic or outside of lessons - helps you to grow truly and the support around you to do exactly that is off the scale. I would encourage everyone to reflect on what Hymers has given them throughout their life up until now, and what it will give in their years ahead. This gives each of us the chance to truly make a mark on a young person’s life chances when we’re gone. I hope my gift will give someone the springboard they need to become the person they’re destined to be."
